Member Finds F.E.T. Doesn't Appear to Apply to RVers

I spent a few minutes at the IRS website and discovered that in addition to the 4% Luxury Tax on some passenger vehicles (costing over $38,000 and weighing under 3 tons) there is, indeed, a new 12% F.E.T. on Truck Chassis, Bodies, Trailers etc.

However, I also discovered the following exclusions from that Federal Excise Tax:

"House trailers. This is any house trailer (regardless of size) suitable for use in connection with either passenger automobiles or trucks. Camper coaches or bodies for self-propelled mobile homes. This is any article designed to be mounted or placed on trucks, truck chassis, or automobile chassis and to be used primarily as living quarters or camping accommodations on and off the trucks. Further, the tax does not apply to chassis specifically designed and constructed to accommodate and transport self-propelled mobile home bodies."

In short... it doesn't appear to apply to RVers.

Our Response:

Good sleuth work, John! If anyone else hears or reads about any other legislation/tax proposed that will affect RVers, please let us know.
