Old Trailer Gets a "Face Lift

.
With a bit of imagination and quite a bit of carpentry skills, you can also enter into a renovation project like Gary Estes and Linda Jarvis, of Chimacum, Washington, undertook with an old Silver Streak they purchased "for a song". In the end, they spent far less money in materials and replacement of appliances than they would have by purchasing a newer trailer. Of course, the man-hours spent on the 3-year project are a different story. The trailer, unlike permanent housing, requires no zoning or inspections. But check with your own local ordinances.

After its completion, RV Consumer Group staff inspected it... and we were so impressed with the quality of workmanship and materials used that we'd be tempted to qualify this one lovingly refurbished trailer as a 5-star.

With the economy still unpredictable, we are finding that many RVers are opting for a reduced budget. Thus, buying older trailers in any condition seems to be a trend. However, from like-new or totally neglected, it is extremely important that you look carefully at the building techniques and the quality of the house structure itself. Keep in mind what JD Gallant has always said: "All RVs are not created equal."
